Pacers Limp into Phoenix to Face Suns

The Indiana Pacers travel to Phoenix for a late-night matchup against the Suns, but they’ll be bringing a roster held together by tape and hope. In a season already defined by a catastrophic injury, the Pacers’ depth will be pushed to its absolute limit against a Suns team looking to capitalize at home.

The Suns enter the contest as 4-point favorites, a line that speaks volumes about the current state of the visiting Pacers.

The Walking Wounded: Pacers’ Injury Woes Deepen

To say the Pacers are shorthanded is a massive understatement. The team’s entire 2025-26 season was upended before it began when superstar point guard Tyrese Haliburton suffered a devastating right Achilles tendon tear in last season’s NBA Finals. He is out for the entire year, stripping the team of its offensive engine and on-court leader.

Unfortunately for Indiana, the bad news hasn’t stopped there. Recent injury reports indicate a cascade of ailments sidelining their most important remaining players:

  • Star forward Pascal Siakam is out.
  • Scoring guard Bennedict Mathurin has been dealing with a “week-to-week” toe sprain since late October and is not expected to play.
  • Forward Obi Toppin is also on the shelf for at least another couple of weeks.

Without Haliburton, Siakam, and Mathurin, the Pacers are missing their top three offensive weapons. The team’s high-octane identity is in serious jeopardy, and the pressure now falls on a collection of role players to generate enough offense to stay competitive.

Suns Navigating Their Own Key Absence

The Phoenix Suns are not without their own injury concerns. The team will be without star guard Jalen Green, who is expected to miss several more weeks with a right hamstring strain he suffered in late October. Green’s explosive scoring is a big loss for the Suns’ backcourt.

However, unlike the Pacers, the Suns still have a formidable roster capable of picking up the slack. While Grayson Allen has appeared on recent injury reports with hip soreness, he was listed as probable and is expected to play. With their remaining star power, the Suns have more than enough firepower to exploit a depleted Pacers squad that will struggle with defensive rotations and offensive creation.

Prediction

This game’s narrative is written all over the injury report. The Pacers are without the players who define their entire system. It’s difficult to envision how this version of their roster can score enough to keep pace with the Suns, even a Suns team missing Jalen Green. The high total of 232.5 is a nod to the Pacers’ typical pace, but this is not a typical Pacers team.

While Phoenix might be missing one of its key cogs, Indiana is missing its entire engine. Expect the Suns to control the game from the outset and comfortably handle a Pacers team that is simply trying to survive until its players get healthy.
