Buffalo Bills insider reveals All-Pro’s likelihood of 2024 return

Sportsnaut

The Buffalo Bills enter the 2024 NFL offseason with one of the worst salary-cap situations in football. Already on the verge of losing several key starters to the open market, NFL free agency might not be the only reason the Bills experience a talent drain in 2024.

Buffalo is more than $50 million over the salary cap in 2024, meaning they currently don’t have the money to re-sign key impending free agents nor could they sign their eventual 2024 rookie class. While contract restructures for the likes of Josh Allen and Dawson Knox will offer some financial relief, there will also be salary-cap casualties this winter.

For general manager Brandon Beane, some players under consideration to be dismissed from the team include Stefon Diggs, Tre’Davious White and Von Miller. While Diggs has the most uncertain future, with a trade seemingly his only way out of Buffalo, there appears to be more clarity on another perennial All-Pro selection.

Regarding Miller’s future in Buffalo, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports that Miller is expected to return for the 2024 season. While the front office could pursue a restructured contract, the expectation is that Miller will be wearing a Bills’ uniform in 2024.

The future Hall of Famer had a career-worst season in 2023. However, the Bills coaching staff largely attributes that to recovery from ACL surgery. Miller underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL in December 2022 and the 34-year-old had a slow recovery from the procedure.

It will be a prove-it year for Miller. Entering his age-35 season, the two-time Super Bowl champion felt out of the Bills’ pass-rushing rotation late in the regular season and even became a healthy scratch. If he can’t rebound in 2024, Buffalo will likely designate him as a post-June 1 release a year from now to create significant cap savings.

As for Diggs, Buscaglia believes that Diggs will also be playing for the Bills in 2024. While the situation is murky and a contract restructure is necessary, the lack of proven options in Buffalo’s receiving corps makes it far more likely Diggs will return next season.
