Draftkings Best MLB Showdown Picks: Royals vs. Twins 8/12/24

SPORTS CHAT PLACE

Major League Baseball presents a matchup between the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a Draftkings perspective.

Prior to discussing the Kansas City Royals vs. New York Mets game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for this evening’s Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins matchup.

Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks

Captain-Pablo Lopez, Starting Pitcher, Minnesota Twins $11,800

On Monday night, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a three game American League series between the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins.

How are these two American League teams playing entering tonight’s game? The Kansas City Royals arrive at this evening’s contest playing quality baseball. Let’s review the Royals recent game data to better shed light on my previous statement. The Kansas City Royals have won eight of the team’s last 12 games played in the 2024 MLB regular season, including an 8-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals three days ago.

In direct contrast to the Kansas City Royals, the Minnesota Twins arrive at the first game of this three-game American League series playing below average baseball. More specifically, the Twins have lost four of the last six games the team has played this season, including a 7-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs last week.

Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to this evening’s contest. Minnesota pitcher Pablo Lopez has certainly established himself as a valuable member of the Minnesota Twins starting pitching rotation in 2024. Having stated that, how has Lopez been playing from a statistical standpoint?

In the 22 games that Pablo Lopez has pitched for the Minnesota Twins in the 2024 MLB regular season, Lopez has posted a 4.74 ERA (Earned Run Average), 1.16 WHIP (walks, hits, inning pitched) and added a whopping 144 strikeouts while allowing only 29 walks.

More recently, in the Minnesota Twins 8-3 victory over the New York Mets 11 days ago, Minnesota hurler Pablo Lopez pitched rather well. Let me be more specific. Lopez pitched six quality innings striking out seven New York batters while allowing three hits and three walks in the Twins win over the Mets just noted. I expect Pablo Lopez to continue to pitch at a high level versus the Royals later today.

Flex Plays

Bobby Witt, Shortstop, Kansas City Royals $10,000

Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt continues to be an essential part of the Kansas City Royals lineup this season. In his last four games played for the Royals in the 2024 MLB regular season, Witt accumulated seven hits (two home runs), six runs scored, and two walks in only 17 plate appearances. Clearly, the Kansas City shortstop is swinging the bat well for the Royals entering tonight’s game.

Additional flex plays I like to play well (Draftkings price noted): Brady Singer, Starting Pitcher (Kansas City Royals) $11,400: Royce Lewis, Third Baseman (Minnesota Twins) $8,400.
