The Memorial Tournament 2024

June 06 – June 09, 2024 at Muirfield Village Golf Club

Muirfield Village

The tournament course Muirfield Village is designer Jack Nicklaus’s best one. He created many of the holes based on his experiences at the Augusta National when playing the Masters.

The rough surrounding fairways and the Bentgrass greens are penal putting a premium on accuracy.

Will Hovland be the Viktor?

We believe Viktor Hovland is on the brink of recapturing his best form after a much-improved showing at the PGA Championship when a 3rd-place finish was his standout result of 2024.

After finishing last season as FedEx Champion, the golfing world appeared to be at Hovland’s feet, but a change of coach and technique has proved to be a mistake. The return of his former coach, Joe Mayo, immediately turned around Hovland’s fortunes. The fact that one of the sport’s most hardworking of professionals has taken the next two weeks off since the PGA looks like a tip, given the twenty-six-year-old Norwegian barely misses any events when in form.

Last year’s sudden death play-off win for Hovland saw him battle hard in a marvelous duel with Denny McCarthy and we suggest he will not want to relinquish his title easily this week.

The Pick

Multiple winners of the Memorial Tournament have always been a thing here, but we must go back over twenty years to Tiger Woods in 2001 for the last time that a Memorial champion defended his crown.

We believe that Viktor Hovland can buck that recent trend and go back-to-back- at Jack’s place so take our top-rated sportsbook price of (+1600).

  • Golf Pick: Viktor Hovland to Win Outright (+1600) Bet365
  • Golf Pick: Viktor Hovland to Finish Top 5 (+350) Bet365

Has Sahith Served as a Memorial Harbinger?

The question this week is if Sahith Theegala served golf followers a harbinger of things to come in his future after getting an invite from Jack Nicklaus back in 2021. On that occasion, the twenty-three-year-old started brightly with a round of 69 and eventually finished an extremely creditable 32nd.

Theegala followed that up in 2022 with an even more impressive 5th to illustrate a strong growing affinity with the track.

This year, the young Californian arrives in Ohio on the back of an unusual, missed cut in Ontario at the Canadian Open but we need to add context. Theegala was possibly still on a downer after blowing up in the final round of the PGA Championship, a couple of weeks prior.

The Pick

This is nothing new to Theegala, who has missed cuts previously when losing events from winning positions the week before. The upside in doing so is an increased price this week for the Memorial Tournament and Theegala has already won on the PGA Tour, last fall at the Fortinet Championship.

We are backing Sahith Theegala to win the Memorial Tournament this week.

  • Golf Pick: Sahith Theegala to Win Outright (+4000) at Bet365
  • Golf Pick: Sahith Theegala to Finish in Top 10 (+280) at Bet365

All That Collin Is Lacking, Is a Win!

Collin Morikawa is in the middle of a solid PGA Tour season and all that is missing from his 2024 resume is a tournament win, so why not here at the Memorial Tournament?

Muirfield Village is the venue of one of Morikawa’s PGA Tour wins although, funnily enough, it was not the Memorial Tournament but the Workday Charity Open that was hastily added to the schedule on golf returning post Covid-19 hiatus in 2020.

The twenty-seven-year-old Californian followed up with a runner-up finish at the Memorial in the next year, so his elite iron play is as well suited to the course as you might expect.

The Pick

Leading into this week in Dublin, Ohio, Morikawa has back-to-back 4th place finishes at the Wells Fargo and PGA Championships after a 3rd at the Masters Tournament in April to illustrate his current well-being.

At prices north of (+1400) about Collin Morikawa, we suggest using their price of (+1400).

Golf Pick: Collin Morikawa to Win Outright (+1400) at Bet365

Golf Pick: Collin Morikawa to Finish Top 5 (+250) at Bet365
