The New York Yankees are dealing with an injury concern just as spring training kicks off. Manager Aaron Boone announced on Tuesday that Jake Cousins, a key reliever, is sidelined due to a right forearm strain. As a result, he will not resume throwing for at least one to two weeks, raising doubts about his availability for Opening Day.

Boone mentioned that Cousins is on track to start throwing soon, but it remains unclear if he’ll be ready for the season opener. The right-handed pitcher had a strong 2024 campaign after joining the Yankees from the Chicago White Sox, posting a 2.37 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 37 innings. However, Cousins also dealt with a right pec strain late last season, though he returned for the playoffs.

In other injury updates, Boone revealed that Clayton Beeter is recovering from a shoulder issue but is progressing with side sessions. The Yankees’ spring training officially begins on February 12 with pitchers and catchers, followed by the full-squad workouts on February 17.
