Plaxico Burress, renowned for his pivotal role in the New York Giants’ 2007 Super Bowl victory, has sold his championship ring for a record-breaking $280,600 at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas. This sale marks the highest amount ever paid for a player’s Super Bowl ring, surpassing the previous record held by Lawrence Taylor’s Super Bowl XXV ring, which fetched $230,000. The only Super Bowl ring to achieve a higher auction price was Baltimore Colts head coach Don McCafferty’s Super Bowl V ring, sold for $300,000 in 2022.
The auctioned ring was accompanied by an authentication letter from Burress, confirming its authenticity and uniqueness. The letter, dated November 2024, indicates that Burress sold the ring to an anonymous buyer months prior to the auction. In the 2007 Super Bowl, Burress secured the game-winning touchdown from Eli Manning, leading the Giants to a 17-14 victory over the previously undefeated New England Patriots. Since retiring in 2013, Burress has encountered financial difficulties, which may have influenced his decision to part with the cherished memorabilia.
