After his standout performance in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Josh Sweat now faces a significant decision about his NFL future. The Eagles’ defensive end played a crucial role in their 40-22 win, recording 2.5 sacks—tying for the team lead—and adding two tackles for loss, along with six total tackles. Sweat’s efforts were pivotal in neutralizing Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the game.
As he prepares to enter free agency next month, Sweat shared his thoughts with the media, expressing that while financial considerations matter, finding the right team situation is key. “Money’s important, sure, but I want to be in the right situation,” said Sweat. Despite uncertainty about his future, he is content with where things stand.
At just 27 years old, Sweat has been with the Eagles since they selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 and has developed into a core part of the Eagles’ defense, now under the guidance of coordinator Vic Fangio. In the 2024 season, he recorded 8 sacks, 41 tackles, and 2 passes defended.
Sweat is among several important defensive free agents for the Eagles, including Zack Baun, Milton Williams, Brandon Graham, and Avonte Maddox. While it’s unclear how Philadelphia will manage to retain all of them given salary cap constraints, Sweat has expressed satisfaction with his time in Philly, regardless of what the future holds.
