New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has finally addressed the circulating rumors about his son Brick Johnson’s role on the team.

A report from The Athletic emerged last month that shed light on Brick’s allegedoutsized involvement in the team’s decision-making process. Woody has reportedly included his teenage sons Brick and Jack in team meetings since last year.

Members of the Jets’ front office have reportedly started noticing Woody citing things his sons have read online during team-centered discussions.

The Johnson patriarch finally addressed the issue in a piece published Monday by the New York Post’s Brian Costello. Johnson called the claims “absolutely untrue” and stated that Brick “has no role” within the Jets organization.

“I think the article is a typical smear piece — unsubstantiated,” Johnson said. “Nobody really stood up and put their name on anything. It’s absolutely untrue. Everything was out of context. When you’re losing games, it gives people the artistic license to kind of do what they want.”

Woody Johnson did confirm that he has been including Brick and Jack in team meetings and other activities. But the Jets owner called their involvement “an apprenticeship” that does not give them any decision-making power.

There were a few eyebrow-raising allegations centered on Woody’s sons, including one that claimed the Jets refused to trade for a certain player due to his Madden rating.

Rumors about 18-year-old Brick even had Aaron Rodgers joking about the possibility of being cut by a teenager.
