Game Five Recap: Oilers Stay Alive

The Edmonton Oilers will try to do the improbable and force a game seven after being down 3-0 in the series after making it 3 wins to 2 with a 5-3 win over the Panthers in game five. Connor Brown opened the scoring for Edmonton with a short-handed goal as the lone marker of the opening period before Zach Hyman doubled Edmonton’s lead just under two minutes into the second period and Connor McDavid made it 3-0 just 3:02 later. Matthew Tkachuk got Florida on the board just 1:53 after that before Corey Perry restored Edmonton’s three-goal lead with just over eight minutes to go in the second. That three-goal cushion lasted all of :12 before Evan Rodrigues cut the deficit to 4-2 and Oliver Ekman-Larsson made it 4-3 just 4:04 into the 3rd, but that’s as close as Florida would get as Connor McDavid would ice the win with an empty-netter with :19 to go to force game six back in Edmonton. Stuart Skinner got the win for the Oilers in goal after stopping 29 of 32 shots faced in the win while Sergei Bobrovsky took the loss after allowing 4 goals on 23 shots faced between the pipes for the Panthers.

Edmonton Oilers vs Florida Panthers Prediction

I’m on the Oilers here. I think Edmonton’s turned this series around, and Edmonton actually believes they can force game seven. Stuart Skinner’s been a slow starter in each series this postseason, but he’s statistically gotten better as the series has progressed in each round. Right now the Panthers are on their heels and I think Edmonton smells blood in the water. I wasn’t a believer before, but the last two games have me rethinking my stance on Edmonton. I think this is going to be an awesome game, but I think Edmonton forces game seven. Give me the Oilers.
