2024 Masters Tournament

April 11-14, 2024 at Augusta National Golf Club

Masters Tournament at Augusta National

This week the Green Jacket finds its suitor for 2024, and as discussed, we have a solid favorite in Scottie Scheffler taking his place at the top of the market, and it’s entirely plausible that his main competition will come from the defectors who return from LIV Golf. Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith are boosted by the defending champion, Jon Rahm choosing to join the breakaway tour earlier in the year.

Augusta National measures and plays a long 7500 yards on undulating parkland.

The players will find the course running fast and they may even things out for the shorter hitters off the tee although significant wind and rain are predicted for Thursday and Friday before a glorious weekend forecast. An ability to place approach shots in strategically the best area of the slick Bentgrass greens has always been paramount at Augusta.

Scottie Knows How to Win!

Don’t believe the song, “Scotty doesn’t know!” because no one knows better how to win golf tournaments than Scottie Scheffler.

The twenty-seven-year-old from New Jersey cuts a strong figure as the standout betting favorite this week at the top of the betting market. Indeed, we must go back to Tiger Woods in his pomp for the last time that I considered betting the Masters favorite.

In four of the last five renewals the winner has been priced below +2000 so there has been a recent lean to the top of the market, which is possibly due to the constant lengthening of the course to fight the advancing technology.

The problem for the rest of golf now is Scheffler’s ball striking is reaching, and in certain spots surpassing, the stats that Tiger Woods put up when he was at his best.

Last year, a cold putter undermined Scheffler’s progress at the top of the spot after his first Masters win in 2022, but a recent change of putter before his Arnold Palmer win has brought his short game stats in line with the rest. That newfound confidence could be seen to full effect when he won the following week at the Player Championship.

The other factor pointing towards Scottie this week is that the rest of the contenders seem to have serious question marks against their chances this week. Not only on the PGA Tour but on the LIV Golf Tour where many underwhelmed at last week’s LIV Miami, which was played at the Blue Monster, a proven strong prep for the Augusta National.

We are happy to support Scottie Scheffler this week in Bet365’s outright win market at +350.

Will It Be Jordan at The Double?

Our second Masters Tournament selection is Jordan Spieth, who looked to be playing some much-improved golf at last week’s Valero Texas Open, and his history at Augusta National requires that we give the thirty-year-old from Dallas the utmost respect.

Spieth was runner-up here on debut in 2014, won the following year and was runner-up again in 2016, to announce in no uncertain terms to the golfing world that he was perfectly suited to Augusta National’s unique demands. Since then, Spieth has completed three other top 4 finishes for a superb shot average of 70.66 over the last decade.

Inspirational champions having been coming back and performing well for decades here, often winning further Green Jackets and fans with long memories like me will remember Jack Nicklaus coming back for his final major championship win here in 1986 at the grand old age of forty-six.

With that romantic feel of Augusta National with the azaleas in full bloom, bringing in the Georgia Springtime this week, there is nothing golf fans would love more than Jordan Spieth to win his second Green Jacket.

This week, we are backing Jordan Spieth to win his second Masters title at the price of +2000.
